Plan to deprecate biz.aQute.tester

Dear Bndtools community,

I pray that you are all well.

This is just a general announcement to solicit feedback from the wider community.

The Bndtools developer team has floated the idea of deprecating the old JUnit support in Bnd. In summary:

  • biz.aQute.tester and biz.aQute.junit will be deprecated in the next Bndtools release and receive no more attention from the core team going forward;
  • In the next major release of Bndtools, they will be removed and biz.aQute.tester.junit-platform will become the default setting for the -tester command.

This is part of a plan to reduce the maintenance burden on the (already stretched) core development team.

Please note that JUnit 3 & 4 support is still available using biz.aQute.tester.junit-platform (though you should still consider upgrading to Jupiter).
